I usually prefer a graphics enhancement mod like HL2 Update these days but honestly the original still looks pretty decent. Only really worth a play if you are itching for some more Half Life action. It is a cut segment from the full game Half Life 2 which was just used for a showcase of HDR being implemented onto the Source engine. You can happily skip playing this if you so desire but it is a fun, little 'walk in the park' mission.

If you're looking for nostalgia, play the original. If you're looking for an enjoyable experience, play Black Mesa (I assume that's what you mean by "source remake" since, as others have pointed out, Half Life: Source is pretty much identical). The original Half Life is a poorly made and frustrating game by today's standards.

Yes and no. It’s full of details. After all, the Half-Life series is renowned for its deep and consistent worldbuilding, but compared to the original Half-Life, it does feel a little bit shallow in the places that matter most to me. I remember a few years ago, back when Black Mesa was a free mod, the amount of HECU soldiers was utterly insane.
Yes, personally I like Half-Life 1 more than Half-Life 2 but there is a mod that is being made that will be Half-Life 1 made with the Half-Life 2 engine if you can't stand the graphics. The expansions Opposing Force and Blue Shift are worth playing in my opinion also. YYYYYYYYeeeeeeeeessssssssss! HL1 is still awesome.

I love playing half life, i've played HL1 and 2 and its expansions / episodes tons of times. I particularly enjoy half life 1 and I have only played the half life games on PC so far. Now i've been entertaining my mind with the thought of buying a ps2 with half life, so I can play half life from my couch, and play decay splitscreen with a mate.

But it is much much funny if you play it with other person, trully I really could recomend you to play Half-Life: Decay with a friend, it is free, and it works perfectly in steam, with hamachi, or by opening ports.
