To check oil warning, ignition on, unplug pressure sensor and put wire to earth. Oil warning should show. To check oil pressure, remove pressure switch and connect pressure gauge, start. To check oil consumption, drain, fill with recommended motorex oil (1.8L i think.confirm) ride exactly 1000km, and drain into measuring container.

My question is regarding its oil change interval. Both KTM riders and KTM importer recommend changing engine oil of 690 every thousand km or at least every 2,000 km while the manual suggests changing it every 10,000km after first service at first 1,000km.

The book for my 09 450 XC-F says change the oil every 3 hours or every 5ish gallons of fuel. I kinda of go in between and change the oil every 2-3 rides depending how tough/fast they are which is 5-8 hours for me. And I change the oil filter every other oil change. I just bought a KTM 690 with recommended OCI's at 6000 miles, same for the air filter. ? Of course they also recommend a $20 a liter magic elixir. The recommended brand is Motorex 4T. However, any good quality fully synthetic oil from a major company will work. Silkolene, Amsoil, Mobil 1, Shell Rotella, Motul, Valvolene and others have been used successfully. Just be certain you have a 15W-50 fully synthetic oil. Recommended oil change interval is 7,500 km. Some owners change earlier, at Oil Change every 5-10hrs depending on riding conditions within those hours and how hard. If you ride dusty areas and pegged out a lot, change it every 5. Keep the air filter clean. Oiled well. I buy the maxima pre oiled one use filters so when its dirty you trash it and use a new one. $10 a filter. My last oil and filter change was exactly one year ago. I am using Motul 300V 4T 15W-50 in this bike. I currently have only 1200 miles on this oil. I think the 15k service intervals, for environment . reasons . They use synthetic oil so can normally take more k's. but like was said some don't ride a lot of miles or Kilometres , so in that case every 12 months. if you do the miles quick , like say 30k per year 15k between service ok. D.
