Have you tried face detect AF? It works great with the 40 2.8 STM on both my Sony's and my M4/3 GX7. Neil, I have the EF 40/2.8 and the EFS 55-250 f/4-5.6 IS lens. I was planning to adapt these, either to my NEX-7/ NEX-5R, or my E-M10, and need to keep the price of the adapter at a reasonable level.
18-55mm IS II £140 or 18-55mm IS STM £180. It's the STM version. Of course my lens hood from the broken version doesn't fit. If you take a lot of shots at 24mm EF-S 24mm is really sharp £150 + £20 cash back, and it is a nice lens cap and makes the camera much easier to carry around.

Quick Review on Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM: The lens, as was one of items in my wishlist, is reasonable first excellent introduction to Canon Crop/APS-C sensor camera users having a light, fast aperture lens.
I bought the SONY α7C ILCE-7C. This picture was taken with a Sony ILCE-7C + Canon EF 40mm F2.8 STM +SIGMA MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to my associates on flickr. The best time to take photographs in the cathedral is early morning, before the tourists wake up.
Nice review, appreciate your perpective. I have been wanting a wider prime than my EF 35mm f/1.4L for a 7D2, and was contemplating someday the EF 24mm f/1.4L II -- but the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM is something like 11x less expensive. One thing I must say is that I very much do enjoy the EF-S lenses. They are very high in price/performance.
You might also consider the EF 40mm f/2.8 which will be more or less equivalent to a native 30 mm f/2. There are some Canon EF mount lenses that play very well when electronically adapted - this includes the 40/2.8 Pancake, the 50/1.8 STM and the 100/2.8L Macro. There are others but these are a good start for “all sweetness and light”.
